5 Reasons Why Inbound Marketing May Not Be Working for You

Whether you’re just beginning inbound marketing or you have plenty of experience, you may not be getting the results that you would like. Here are five reasons why inbound marketing might not be working for you and how you could fix the problem.

1. You’re not targeting the right audience

When you’re running a business, there is always a specific audience that would be the most interested in what you have to offer. When you target an audience that may not be interested, it doesn’t help your business. If you’re targeting the wrong audience, all you’re doing is wasting time and resources. Before beginning your inbound marketing efforts, you should make sure that the people you’re trying to appeal to are the same people who could become future customers.

2. You have unrealistic expectations

Many companies fail because they expect immediate results. This leads to spending too much money and resources way too soon in an effort to achieve the results they expect. Digital marketing may not yield results right away, so it’s important to be patient and tailor your expectations so they’re a little more realistic.

3. You’re trying to do everything at once

There’s a lot to tackle in digital marketing: blogs, social media posts, emails, etc. But don’t make the mistake of trying to get them all done at once. Each of these things take time if you do them right. It’s a good idea to work on one thing at a time. This way, you won’t be sacrificing quality for quantity.

4. You’re buying your followers on social media

There are a lot of different things you could do on social media that could make your business look bad. One thing you definitely do not want to do is to buy your followers. It looks good for your account to have lots of followers. However, it’s getting easier and easier to find out if the followers you have are real or bought. If people find out that you have fake followers, it makes your business seem untrustworthy, which will lead to people losing interest in your business.

5. You don’t have a blog

With inbound marketing, blogging is vital. According to Lindsay Kolowich, “Every time you write a new blog post, you add another indexed page to your website — and every new indexed page is another opportunity for you to show up in search engines and drive traffic to your website.” Blogging also shows people that you’re active on social media. Blogging is an important and necessary part of digital marketing because it can easily capture the attention of potential customers.
