A safe way to connect people with HIV to a supportive community.
Everyday Health‘s has written an article about the (until now) untapped potential to help people with HIV better manage their condition by the use of smartphone apps.
“The ideal app would provide a safe way to connect people with HIV to a supportive community”, says social worker Jennifer McMillen Smith, LISW-S, of the MetroHealth System in Cleveland.
“People do better emotionally when they have support,” she says.
Positive Peers is a private social media application being developed by The MetroHealth System’s Compass Services, in collaboration with Blue Star Design and Blackbird Digital. The application is for youth and young adults living with HIV (ages 13-34) and features information, social networking and self-management tools to support HIV-related, holistic care. Positive Peers will only be available to MetroHealth patients, beginning in late summer, 2016.
